Calling all Control Freaks!
Are you a control freak like me?
This past week, a friend of mine posted a photo of a new type of art she tried called "acrylic pouring." For those of you who know me, you know I'm a left-handed artsy-fartsy hippie that LOVES trying new art techniques. Naturally (and instantly), I had to try it. It's pretty simple - you add water, or other chemicals to acrylic paint to cause a chemical reaction, then literally "pour" the paint onto a canvas. Then, you tilt the canvas in various directions to help the paint spread out. Based on what you add to the paint (rubbing alcohol, oil, etc...), it gives different affects on canvas. The painting you see in the picture was my third attempt. During the first 2 attempts, I was desperately trying to pour and tilt my "masterpiece" to give it the look I wanted. I failed miserably (hence why those paintings are NOT posted). For the third painting, I decided to stop trying to control the paint so much, and just let go - let it travel the path it wanted to create. I was THRILLEDDDDDDD with the result!!! I am in LOVE with this painting - notice the beautiful designs, twists and turns each color takes, as if it was all planned ahead of time (not to mention, it was mesmerizing to watch as it was happening!). This parallels life in many ways - we try and control, tilt and pour our way to a "perfect" life. We think we know what we're doing, and end up with a mess after it's all done. The art of letting go is SO hard, but if you are brave enough to give it a shot, you might be impressed and shocked with the beauty of the outcome (not to mention - a whole heck of a lot less stressed!). Is there anything in your life you are fighting to keep control of? Consider the possibility of letting go. I triple dog dare you (yup - I just whipped out the dare), to surrender and see what happens. You might be surprised of the beautiful masterpiece that awaits you on the other side. ;) Until next week, let go and enjoy your masterpiece! P.S. - I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to share your feedback!
